Year 1: Foundation in Leadership

Course Description

Methodology

This course will be delivered online via Zoom. The meetings will be synchronous, and students are expected to attend each weekly session in-person at the given location. Time is allotted towards the lecture and activity segments of the class. Active team participation is highly encouraged, and the skills of autonomous learning and self-sufficiency will be promoted throughout the course.

Prerequisites

  • Age requirement: minimum of 13 years
  • Completion of the Horizon Sunday School Level 7 or equivalent

Learning Outcomes

An understanding of the importance of leadership, exploring the qualities and characteristics of effective leaders, and identifying personal leadership strengths through learning about John Maxwell’s 5 levels of leadership.
The competency of perceiving mistakes as learning opportunities through transforming a Fixed Mindset into Growth Mindset.
The ability to develop effective communication skills, including public speaking, active listening, and conflict resolution during groupwork.
The skills of building positive relationships and working collaboratively with others.
To set meaningful goals, develop action plans, and learn methods for effective time
management with the techniques of SMART goals and the Time Management Matrix.
An aptitude for using Self-Awareness, Imagination, Conscience and Independent Will to tackle personal and academic difficulties.
Skills of practical leadership can be transferred to future experiences including organizing events, leading community service projects, or taking on leadership roles within school clubs or organizations.
An aptitude for reflecting on personal leadership experiences, identifying areas for growth, and creating Life Plans and Mission Statements for future success.
