Leadership for Youth

Year 1 : The Youth Leadership Development Course Year 1 utilizes the framework of the 7 Habits of Effective Teens to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to become effective leaders in their schools and communities. This course introduces leadership qualities, fosters self-confidence, and empowers students to contribute positively to their surroundings. Participants will engage in interactive activities, discussions, and real-world projects to explore different levels of leadership and develop personal time management strategies. Delivered online via Zoom, the course includes synchronous weekly sessions that promote active participation and encourage self-sufficiency in learning. By the end of the course, students will understand the importance of leadership, develop effective communication skills, build positive relationships, and learn to set meaningful goals using techniques like SMART goals and the Time Management Matrix. They will also reflect on their leadership experiences and create personal mission statements for future success. Required materials include The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey.

Year 2: Year 2 of the Youth Leadership Development Course is designed to equip students with essential knowledge, skills, and strategies to navigate various aspects of life and prepare for future careers. This course focuses on personal development, effective decision-making, and career exploration, empowering students to become confident, responsible, and impactful leaders. By the end of the course, participants will have developed crucial leadership skills, gained practical experience in leading others, and acquired the knowledge necessary to make positive contributions to their school and community. Delivered online via Zoom, the course will include synchronous weekly sessions that promote active participation and self-sufficiency in learning. Students will learn to think like designers by planning their goals, assessing personal interests and values, and setting both short- and long-term objectives. They will explore the narratives that shape their identities, practice mindful awareness for improved well-being, engage in creative problem-solving, and build confidence through a Good Type Journal. Additionally, students will utilize tools like Work-Life View and Odyssey Plans to create three distinct life paths and identify moments of engagement and flow, all while receiving support to overcome obstacles. Required materials include Designing Your Life: How to Build a Well-Lived, Joyful Life by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans.
