Year 2: Advanced Leadership Development

Course Description

Year 2 of the Youth Leadership Development course is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to navigate various aspects of life and prepare for future careers. This course aims to provide students with a foundation for personal development, effective decision-making, and career exploration. The aim is to empower students to become confident, responsible, and impactful leaders. By the end of the course, students will have developed essential leadership skills, gained practical experience in leading others, and acquired the knowledge necessary to make positive contributions in their school, community, and beyond.

Methodology

This course will be delivered online via Zoom. The meetings will be synchronous, and students
are expected to attend each weekly session in-person at the given location. Time is allotted towards the lecture and activity segments of the class. Active team participation is highly encouraged, and the skills of autonomous learning and self-sufficiency will be promoted throughout the course.

Prerequisites

  • Age requirement: minimum of 14 years
  • Completion of Year 1 of Horizon Academy’s Youth Leadership Development
    Course or equivalent*

Learning Outcomes

Learn to think like a designer, and plan their goals/aspirations in future life

Assess personal interests, strengths, and values, and set short-term and long-term
goals to design, prototype and build a fulfilling life

Explore the social and personal narratives, and realize the role these narratives have in
shaping an individual

Practice mindful awareness of their surroundings to improve physical and mental wellbeing, managing stress, and practicing self-care to support overall health and happiness

Learn to generate ideas and apply them to creative problem-solving

Develop reframes to eliminate dysfunctional beliefs and replacing them with beneficial
ideals

Build confidence within their own capabilities with a Good Type Journal

Utilize the tools of Work-Life View and Odyssey Plans to form 3 distinct life paths – each
presenting a future they envision for themselves

Identify moments of engagement and flow, and channel them through curiosity and
prototyping

Attain support and collaboration to work through possible obstacles
